• COVID-19
  • COVID-19 can cause severe medical complications and lead to death in some people. There is no way to know how COVID-19 will affect you. • Flu – Seasonal
  • Influenza, commonly known as "the flu", is an infectious disease caused by a virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe, including: a high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, and feeling tired. Symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week. Nausea and vomiting occur more commonly in the unrelated infection gastroenteritis, which is sometimes inaccurately referred to as "stomach flu" or "24-hour flu".
  • Influenza vaccines, also known as flu shots, are vaccines that protect against influenza. A new version of the vaccine is developed yearly as the influenza virus rapidly changes. While their effectiveness varies from year to year, most provide modest to high protection against influenza and are the best form of prevention. Almost everyone over age 6 months should get a yearly flu shot.
• Hepatitis A+B
  • Hepatitis is considered inflammation of the liver. Symptoms can include yellow discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes, poor appetite, vomiting, tiredness, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. Hepatitis may be a temporary condition, lasting up to six months, or long term lasting for more than six months. Acute hepatitis can sometimes resolve on its own, progress to chronic hepatitis, or rarely result in acute liver failure. Over time the chronic form may progress to scarring of the liver, liver failure, or liver cancer.
  • The hepatitis A or B vaccines are a two or three dose series that protect against the different strains. Anyone that has diabetes should be vaccinated for hepatits, as well as certain healthcare workers and those traveling to certain regions of the country.
• Human Papilloma Virus
  • Human papillomavirus is a DNA virus from the papillomavirus family that is capable of infecting humans. Most HPV infections are subclinical and will cause no physical symptoms; however, in some people it can progress and may cause benign papillomas, or tumorous growths. More than 30 to 40 types of HPV are typically transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anogenital region.
  • Human papilloma virus vaccines prevent infection by certain types of human papillomavirus. It is estimated that they may prevent 70% of cervical cancer, 80% of anal cancer, 60% of vaginal cancer, 40% of vulvar cancer, some genital warts, and possibly some mouth cancer. The CDC now recommends all 11 to 12 year olds get two doses of HPV vaccine to protect against cancers caused by HPV
• Meningitis
  • Meningitis is an acute inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges. The most common symptoms are fever, headache and neck stiffness. Other symptoms include confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light or loud noises. Young children often exhibit only nonspecific symptoms, such as irritability, drowsiness, or poor feeding.
  • Meningococcal vaccine refers to any of the vaccines used to prevent infection by Neisseria meningitidis. The vaccines are between 85 and 100% effective for at least two years, which typically covers the times of highest exposure. Freshmen entering college and living in the dorms, military recruits living in the barracks, and those with work exposure are recommended to get the meningitis vaccine.
• MMR
  • The MMR vaccine is an immunization vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella. It is a mixture of live attenuated (killed) viruses of the three diseases, administered via injection.
  • Introduced as part of the standard childhood immunizations in 1971, it has effectively eliminated outbreaks of measles, mumps, and rubella in the general population.
• Pneumonia
  • Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lung affecting primarily the microscopic air sacs known as alveoli. Typical signs and symptoms include a varying severity and combination of productive or dry cough, chest pain, fever, and trouble breathing, depending on the underlying cause.
  • Vaccines are available that can help prevent pneumococcal disease, which is any type of infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. There are two kinds of pneumococcal vaccines available. It is part of the childhood immunization schedule, and people 2 through 64 years old with certain medical conditions should receive it, adults 19 through 64 years old who smoke cigarettes, as well as all adults 65 years or older.
• Shingles
  • Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a viral disease characterized by a painful skin rash with blisters in a localized area. Typically, the rash occurs in a single stripe either on the left or right of the body or face. Two to four days before the rash occurs there may be tingling or local pain in the area. The rash usually heals within two to four weeks; however, some people develop ongoing nerve pain which can last for months or years, a condition called post-herpetic neuralgia. In those with poor immune function, the rash may occur widely. If the rash involves the eye, vision loss may occur.
  • Shingrix vaccine is a two-shot series vaccine that has been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of herpes zoster. The Shingrix's second vaccine is given within two to six months after the first. The vaccine also reduced the number of cases of postherpetic neuralgia and reduced the severity and duration of pain and discomfort associated with shingles. The shingles vaccine is recommended for most people over age 50.
• Tetanus/Diptherisa/Pertussis
  • DPT refers to a combination of vaccines against three infectious diseases in humans: diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus. The vaccine components include diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and killed whole cells of the organism that cause pertussis.
  • Introduced as part of the routine childhood and adult immunization schedule, it has effectively eliminated nearly all cases of Diphtheria and Tetanus. We still occasionally see outbreaks of Pertussis and there are certain recommendations for accelerated vaccination with the Pertussis containing vaccines.
• Varicella (Chicken Pox)
  • Varicella vaccine, also known as chickenpox vaccine, is a vaccine that protects against chickenpox. If given to those who are not immune within five days of exposure to chickenpox it prevents most cases of disease. Vaccinating a large portion of the population also protects those who are not vaccinated.
  • Introduced as part of the routine childhood vaccinations in 1995, it has essentially eliminated Chicken Pox outbreaks in the U.S.
